It is so often the case when I read original fiction (as opposed to fanfiction) that I'm reminded of how difficult it can be to create characters who don't come off as annoying to the reader. I think it's possible--and sometimes necessary--to have characters who annoy other characters but who are still endearing to the reader, but it's a tricky line to walk.
