GATTACA

This movie has been on my (very short) to watch list for since the beginning of the year. GATTACA is on Amazon Prime right now so I popped it on and oh boy.

It was everything I could have wanted. Genetic modification, social hierarchy exploration, family dynamics, running from the police, deflection of identity, a caregiving relationship, advancing in the face of oppression.
It was set in some futuristic 1920's looking place full of brutalist buildings lol. So it kind of reminded me of Patricia Highsmith stuff, but less uh nefarious? lol.
I especially loved Ethan Hawke's character. Super earnest. Jude Law's character was great too. The end fucking killed me though, WHY 😭 If there was one thing I would change it would be part of the end. Also, there was lots of yellow lighting and I still don't know if I liked that or not. But I loved the movie.

I found myself wishing it was a book though. I guess since I read a lot more than I watch movies my brain prefers books? Or I was liking it so much I was wishing I could add it towards my reading challenge?? lol
