CW: We can be honest about the fact that people in the past were openly racist in ways that are shocking to us now. Some of these people would be really fucking awful to live with today (looking at you especially Atherton). But they are dead and we get to read their stories for free. We can enjoy these works of fiction AND acknowledge that what they have done is shitty. Also note that some of the other stories in Atherton's short story collection which I have linked to, but that I have not mentioned, are particularly racist.
