Zonelets

While working on my website for Neocities I came across this cool little blogging system for Neocities called Zonelets. Here's the description from the creator:

It's a package of files you'd load into your Neocities (or otherwise) site and voilà! A blog!

The creator has made it pretty simple to set up and get started. There's text instructions and youtube videos too which is a plus. There's also a few prepackaged themes that can be slapped onto the blog. I really like how the creator has made things so simple and provides excellent instructions so that anyone can have fun with this.

Neocities seems daunting because you have to build your own site, I legitimately did not know how a website worked before I tried it out lol (magic I supposed). So I'm glad someone out there made something like this. I've mentioned before that I wasn't really online when personal sites and fansites were a big thing (I'm an anomaly and I only really got online in my 2nd year of college!). Browsing Neocities has been really cool and I'd love to see more sites and content on there. So if anyone is interested, but wary, I think you should check out Zonelets!

I think Zonelets would work for posting articles!
The first site I tried to make is... something. I think because I went at it without a page structure in mind it just ended up being weird columns that I tried to fill and random transparent pictures littered around lol. But my second one I like.

It is rough that's for sure. The problem with bookmarks is that they get filed away behind another button and then I forget about the five articles I was gonna read *checks date* six months ago.... haha!

I'd love to check out your site if you decide to take it up again :^)

I’ve taken to using Pocket for most of my bookmarks these days because it at least has a decent search function but yeah stuff still gets hella buried and disorganized. It does have tags but... nah.

I guess another part of it was that a lot of the jobs I am applying to want sites or whatnot because it proves you can do stuff in tech, though like, not sure what, if any, of my personal life I’d want to show to potential employers. Some of the script is on my GitHub so maybe they can just look at that instead. My original idea for the site was mostly just a directory with maybe some articles and personal art/craft but like idk, you know? Which doesn’t sound too controversial but I live in a right-to-work state with minimal gender/sexuality protections so my article on “Rei Ayanami Is A Trans Man” and whatnot could potentially not go over well.

I have Pocket on my browser, but I haven't tried it yet. I try to keep my bookmarks organized right when I save them, but that doesn't mean I'm going to get around to reading them lol.

Oh! I see. Yeah, that's really tough then, having to make a portfolio site. I wouldn't know what to put on one either. Maybe I'd scrounge up some recipes and drop them on it. I wouldn't want to show an employer anything too personal either for a multitude of reasons.

I'd like to read that article! If you have it up somewhere, sounds interesting.
