Day 3: What's a favorite, or at least memorable fandom meeting/interaction that you've had?
When Dragon Age Inquisition released on November 18, 2014 it contained something that I dreaded: Multiplayer. I knew no one who would feasibly play the multiplayer with me. There were others in the same situation as I and we came together on a google docs spreadsheet to meet others to play it with. We listed our PS4 gamertags and some other videogames we were interested in. I mutually added about 3 or 4 people and only ended up playing MP with one of them.
It was meant to be! Because we have been friends for nearly seven years now! The lovely PandoraKarp and I talk almost every single day about more than DA and games and I think it's so awesome that such a great friendship started by chance on a spreadsheet 😂 (the other series she had listed liking which we also bonded over was Fire Emblem hehe)!

Day 4: What are the origins of your penname/username?
Long story short: I think it's funny.

IDK I have some sort of sense of humor.
I went with the numbers in the username at first bc letters only version was taken on twitter, but now my twitter handle is not associated to my other accounts (bc I hate twitter and I don't like sharing any of my other things there anymore). So my tumblr and other stuff I changed to letters only. It was not very fun for people to struggle reading it with the numbers anyway lmaoo. Perhaps I will change it here someday...

Funny story tho, ppl on discord started calling me "Al" and it made me lose my mind at first. I disliked and liked it at the same time. Now I think it's cute xD

alhgiehaag that's SUCH a delightful story about meeting your friend! it's funny how these things can happen via happenstance, huh? (once i realized i never would've met one of my best friends if i hadn't gone to this one event on a TOTAL WILD DRUNKEN WHIM, and i had to sit down for a minute cause. woah. so glad i live in the universe where i went to the thing, and not the one where i never met them, lol)

That's how I feel too! It's absolutely wild that we just happened to cross paths and then click so well. These are the best kinds of stories!
We like to joke that "we met on a spreadsheet," but it still blows our minds too.

Confession: it took me until, like, last month to actually parse your username. Up until this point I'd just been handwavey slurring it in my head as something like "alderate".

It's so confusing right !!? 😂 And I've found that out the hard way 😂 People just don't know what to make of it 😂

I once donated to a Twitch stream charity event under this handle and the host who was thanking everyone by name looked at my username/donation and stopped, then mumbled something out in a daze 😂 I was like "this has to stop! i have to stop doing this to people!"

I love stories about meeting people through random circumstances like that. When I started playing World of Warcraft, I didn't know anyone, so I let the game assign me a server. Some of the people I met playing on that server are still my friends sixteen years later. I've often wondered who I would have met if the game had chosen differently and if any of those connections would have lasted as long.

I love these kinds of stories too! A little bit of serendipity is a treat. Isn't it wild to think about how many ways we could not have met someone? Makes the people we did find that much more special in my view :^D

Interestingly, before I saw the pronunciation guide for your name I pronounced it as alard-eight. I don't really know why; it makes a lot more sense as a later date. XD

Lol. It's so hard to read I know xD I think the lack of capital letters doesn't help differentiating the two words I was going for either. The hand-wavey mispronunciations are funny to me though, I love everyone's attempts xD
