Assorted Reviews #4

A couple of "A Short Introduction To: insert subject here" books. The Plato one was good, the Tragedy one was not.
Creationists a collection of essays on literature by E.L. Doctorow. I picked this up because it came up on my search through my library's catalogue while I was looking for something else. It was alright, I was mostly interested in the essay on Kafka, but it was shorter than I expected.
The Death of Jane Lawrence by Caitlin Starling. I didn't review this one right? I actually wrote a lot about it in my journal, but I don't think I posted anything. A gothic horror book with not enough haunted house for my liking. It was okay, but I think it laid way too much stress on the romance part in the beginning than the actual spooky stuff. I think I would have liked it more if the twist wasn't exactly like something I had already seen before. May write a proper review later because I have notes.
The Taking of Jake Livingston a YA paranormal novel by Ryan Douglass. Short and sweet. There's a ghost, get rid of the ghost. I wish there had been more worldbuilding because the way ghosts manifested and worked was interesting, but I liked it for what it was.
Nabokov's Lolita. What on earth could I say about Lolita that hasn't already been said? I sort of buddy read this with
miniaturehauntedhouse and we ended up becoming fascinated with this novel enough that we delved into other works about it. I enjoyed listening to this Lolita Podcast [Link]
