Small Web, Big Things
Oct. 2nd, 2024 11:10 pmPlanned to make this post the same day
smallweb's Small Web September ended. But here it is now!
SWS was such a good event. I enjoyed seeing what everyone was working on and all the sharing of resources and encouragement was wonderful to see. The weekly posts helped keep me motivated too. I didn't even plan to do as much as I did, but once I decided September was for working on the website that is all I did.
Usually when I go on my little hobby benders I feel conflicted about it, because it's usually not planned. I even started working on my website in late August unplanned. But then the event came along and it changed my mindset. September was the month for working on my website and I was free to not do anything else.
So what all did I get up to?
- Homepage
Moved the featured pages into a text list format and added a micro-blogging notepad - About Page
Added Game Collection, Book Collection, and Vinyl Collection pages. (Also redesigned the CSS file these pages use.) And a lot more buttons. - Character Pages
These may look almost exactly the same inside, but I changed them to CSS Grid from Flexbox and added scroll snap to the galleries (which I really like). - Book Log
Changed the way I'm uploading my book logs/reviews and uploaded all of them going back to 2018. - Game recs
Changed the layout of these into CSS Grid too and added lite-youtube-embed CSS and JS. - Dragon Age Shrine
I finally made a Dragon Age shrine. I made the splash page the title screen of Dragon Age 2. And the navigation inside is based on DA2 Kirkwall map (night or day depending on your system's display preference).
I am certainly pleased about everything I finished. I've been meaning to make a shrine for a while now, but I thought making that splash page was gonna be too hard. (It wasn't really.) I also ended up writing over 10k words just for the primer/manifesto. My total word count for September is 19,033. That's the most I have probably ever managed in a single month.
It was great and I feel creatively refreshed and inspired!

Date: 2024-10-04 05:27 am (UTC)It was fun! I revamped my website around this time last year too, so I was thinking it could be a yearly thing for me. I hope we can do another SWS.
Thank you! I knew I wanted a game in that "location" and I like blackjack so I went with that. Had to look up a tutorial though because the only other games I had made before were hangman and quizzes lmao. (A quiz might be fun too though). I had fun designing the cards too.

Date: 2024-10-04 05:31 am (UTC)Thank you! I like when people have exceedingly different looking pages on their websites, but it's also so much easier to just have a base design. I try to compromise with myself
I'm looking forward to seeing what you make!
